Welcome to another terrific year!
We are working on our schedules this week, and of course, as we have all experienced in the past, nothing is set in stone until the final numbers are in. We have new registrations every day, as well as some students moving out of the area. This means that numbers are fluctuating, and our Intermediate classes may be affected by these changes. Please expect that student placement might change in the following two weeks. We are asking for your patience. Unfortunately for this year, we will not be able to blend our classes due to scheduling constraints. Your child will have a second teacher providing learning opportunities this year. Mr. C. Larmand will teach Math, Media, Phys Ed, Health, and Science.
This website
Homework will be posted on the white board in the classroom, but I will also be posting this information on this website, under each subject tab. You can also find important dates, due dates, and other information there as well. Please check it every day, as I will be updating it regularly ... please feel free to leave comments or questions that could interest other parents and students - but nothing confidential as the information is visible to anyone who logs in.
Physical Education
Your child will have Physical Education twice a week, on Days 1 and 3. It is expected that every student has a complete change of clothes (shirt and bottoms) as well as a sturdy pair of clean running shoes.
Student Information
Going home on the first day of school is a variety of student information sheets. The package has changed this year, and consists of 2 sheets of paper only. If there is information on it that you would prefer not to include, that is completely up to you. However, I will remind you that all of the information you include is confidential and will not be shared with non-teaching staff.
Student Insurance
In addition to the student information package, you child will come home with an insurance form. It is the board policy that any student participating in extra-curricular activities must have insurance. If you already have insurance for your child through your work or a family plan, indicate this on the form and return it. If your decide to pay for a plan from the school board, simply fill out the form and return it to school with the payment.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones must be turned off during the regular course of the learning day. Simply turning off the volume or putting it on vibrate does not stop the distraction that a possible incoming text will cause. We all know how anxious we get when we are expecting a response, teenagers are no different, and it is difficult to concentrate on a task at hand until that conversation has ended. Also, use of cell phones as calculators will not be permitted. If I notice a student using a cell phone, it will be taken and put in a secure, locked cupboard until the end of the day. A second offence will result in the cell phone being taken to the Principal. Cell phones can be used during nutrition breaks and recesses. They can also be used with the teacher's permission for research purposes when working on projects.
Dress Code
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the School Board does have a dress code that everyone must abide by. You are no doubt aware of the posters showing appropriate clothing choices, as well as the length of shorts/skirts and arm/neck openings of shirts. The basic rule of thumb is: no bra straps must show, tops cannot be cut so low as to cause a distraction, necklines and shirt armpits cannot gape open, underwear must not show above waist line of pants, and shorts/skirts must be mid-thigh (arm length is not an accurate way to determine if a hemline is long enough). If I am uncomfortable looking at your child in his/her choice of attire, then it is inapropriate and must be changed. This dress code is Board policy, and even though it may seem that other schools are more relaxed than Mundy's Bay, it is in fact the policy, and we follow it at this school.
How to contact me
You can find this information under the tab «Contact Information». You can call the school at any time, but you will most likely have to leave a message. The best way to reach me is through email. I try to check my emails once a day, but cannot promise this will be done before the day begins. Therefore, if you have some important information that I need to be aware for a particular day, please send it the day before.
I am excited to be your child's teacher, and look forward to working with him/her!
